Harmsen Forum, 17th May. What is the role of sustainability in difficult times? A nice to have, or just good business sense?

"Carbon Neutral, Greening the Environment and Cradle to Cradle" are expressions that have entered our day-to-day vocabulary. But how much of it is political and corporate greenwash and how much can be practically embraced by organisations?

What happens to our "Green Plans" when there's enormous pressure to maintain reasonable margins, issue dividends, or save money? The new HQ offices of Triodos Bank will be the location for the next Harmsen Forum on the 17th May.

Speakers from Triodos Bank, the ethical bank and the law firm Boyes Turner, will share their views on the role of sustainability when growing their respective organisations. The desire to do the right thing is at the forefront, but doesn't being competitive, making a profit, retaining staff, delivering shareholder value, come first?

Dr Bevis Watts, Head of Business Banking at Triodos Bank will talk about how sustainability is at the heart of the ethical bank. Triodos believe that good business doesn't need to be at the expense of the world's most pressing environmental problems. Andrew Chalkley, CEO for Boyes Turner, one of the UK's leading full service law firms will speak about the challenges facing a successful firm and their recent experience in balancing business priorities with a perceived "sustainability premium".

An open Forum concludes the event, allowing delegates the opportunity to pose questions to the speakers and exchange opinion with other delegates.
