The Environment Agency, which is responsible for protecting and improving the environment throughout England and Wales, is relocating approximately 1000 staff to its new national headquarters building in Bristol city centre. The Harmsen Group is proud to be appointed as interior designers on this landmark building for the city.

Sustainability will feature highly in the fabric of the building and the specification of the interiors. The five-storey building will meet the “Excellent” rating of BREEAM (Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Appraisal Method) making it one of the greenest office buildings in the UK. The building may act as example to other occupiers on how applying best current practice can reduce their carbon footprint and minimise energy costs.

Working closely with the Environment Agency has offered the Harmsen team an exciting opportunity to design a scheme which has sustainability at the heart. From flexible use of space to the careful use of materials and products, the focus remains on the staff and the environment.
